Escalating Violence in Sumy and Zaporizhzhia Regions
According to UATV: Russian strikes in Ukraine’s Sumy region have claimed the lives of two people, one of them a child. On April 1, 2023, authorities confirmed that a 37-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl were among the dead. The girl later succumbed to injuries sustained on March 28 while receiving treatment at a hospital. In total, Russian forces targeted 39 populated areas, signaling a sharp escalation of hostilities in the area.
Meanwhile, in the Zaporizhzhia region, four civilians were wounded amid ongoing shelling. Over a single 24-hour period, Russian troops unleashed 975 strikes across 42 settlements, raising alarm among local residents and international observers. These sustained attacks on Ukrainian territory continue to pose a grave threat to civilian safety.
Strikes Hit Residential Neighborhoods
In addition, the city of Lutsk saw attacks on industrial sites and warehouses. On March 31, Russian forces also launched an airstrike on a residential district of Slavyansk, injuring three people, including a 12-year-old girl. These incidents underscore the severity of the situation in Ukraine and highlight the urgent need for measures to protect civilians from military assaults.
The rising number of shelling incidents and civilian casualties reflects a deepening of the conflict in Ukraine, drawing growing international concern. These attacks, particularly those targeting residential areas and infrastructure, emphasize the immediate danger to non-combatants and reinforce the call for stronger protective measures and intensified global efforts to resolve the war.
