The U.S. President Sends Treasury Secretary to Ukraine for Talks with Zelensky

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the sending of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky. He emphasized the importance of ending the war as soon as possible in his message on the social media platform Truth Social.

According to Bloomberg, Bessent will be the first member of Trump's cabinet to visit Ukraine. His visit is scheduled for this week and will be dedicated to negotiations regarding access for American companies to develop Ukrainian mineral resources.

Trump's National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, confirmed that discussions on future aid to Ukraine are planned for this week. In particular, issues of partnership in the rare earth sector, natural resources, oil, and gas in Ukraine, as well as the procurement of American products will be considered.

Earlier, on February 3, Trump expressed interest in reaching a deal with Ukraine to obtain rare earth metals and other resources in exchange for arms supplies.
