According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian military personnel have the right to apply to military higher education institutions while serving, provided they meet specific conditions. Notably, the category of 'limited fitness' for military service has been eliminated in Ukraine. It has been replaced by a new designation: 'fit for service in Territorial Defense Forces, support units, military academies, etc.'. This change means citizens who might previously have been deemed only partially fit can now perform certain duties within the armed forces. For instance, a citizen with a '30b' medical category, indicating vision problems, is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Requirements for Studying at Military Academies
For service members to study at military academies, they must obtain permission from their commanding officer. This is crucial to ensure that their studies do not interfere with the performance of their military duties. As Yuriy Aivazian notes,
"military personnel can study without leaving active service at higher education institutions".
However, it is important to note that in practice, the opportunity to enter a military academy may be limited. Vyacheslav Kyryda emphasizes that
"theoretically, it is possible. But in practice, I am not prepared to say that a military academy will accept you with a 30b article". Thus, while the law grants service members the right to an education, the actual admission conditions can vary significantly.
