Major Vodafone outage in the UK: thousands of users left without internet.
According to The Sun: Nearly 46 thousand Vodafone users reported internet issues. This became known thanks to the outage monitoring platform Downdetector.
The first complaints started coming in shortly before 3 PM. Most users reported issues with home broadband connections, while some noted problems with mobile internet.
AlamyUsers actively discussed the situation on social media. One of them tweeted:
“@VodafoneUK just me or have you fallen off the planet? No broadband, no website, no cell signal?”Another added:
“Looks like @vodafone are using a big outage as my broadband and mobile data have gone off …”A third reported:
“Vodafone home broadband seems to be down? No internet. Started at about 3 PM today.”
Outages were observed in various cities, including London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Manchester. Some also noted that they could not access the Vodafone app or website.
Journalists from The Sun attempted to visit the Vodafone website but were unsuccessful. One user noted that they were unable to reach Vodafone's hotline:
“@VodafoneUK why is your internet and UK website down? Your number also doesn’t call – says it’s switched off.”
Do you qualify for compensation?
If you are experiencing issues with internet or mobile services, you may be entitled to compensation.
Broadband providers signed up to the automatic compensation scheme of Ofcom usually offer £8 per day for unprovided broadband or home phone service after the first two days of disruption.
Additionally, they may pay £25 for missed or canceled appointments if the cancellation was notified less than 24 hours in advance, along with £5 for each day of delay in starting a new service.
The process for obtaining compensation is usually automated.
Vodafone has a dedicated section on its website where you can find out how to file a complaint if you are dissatisfied with their services. It outlines the steps you need to take before contacting the complaint team at 0333 3040 441. Online chat or a dedicated form to fill out is also available.
This case serves as a vivid reminder of the importance of having reliable access to communication, especially in today's world, where online services have become an integral part of our lives. Internet issues can lead to significant inconveniences, so it is essential to know how to act in such situations.
