European Parliament Member on Ukraine's EU Accession: There is no understanding in Trump's Administration.
According to ТСН: The question of Ukraine's accession to the European Union concerns only the EU itself and those states that aspire to become part of it.
This was stated by Lithuanian politician and Member of the European Parliament Petras Auštrevičius in an interview with KYIV24.
He emphasized that there is a statement in the U.S. national security doctrine claiming that the European Union is a 'dying civilization,' yet it wishes to accept Ukraine.
“Such rhetoric indicates that there is no understanding of the European Union in Trump's administration,” he noted.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also stressed that the United States could influence the decisions of 'some states' that oppose Ukraine's accession to the EU.
European officials believe that Ukraine's potential accession to the EU by January 1, 2027, referenced in the latest peace proposal draft, appears quite unrealistic.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban referred to Ukraine as an 'undefined entity,' noting that Ukraine's EU membership could lead to a 'state of war' between the EU and Russia and to conflict on Hungarian territory.
The situation around Ukraine's European integration remains tense, especially against the backdrop of reactions from certain EU member states. The discussion about the possibility of Ukraine's accession to the European Union highlights the complexity of international relations and the influence of geopolitical factors on European stability. Time will tell how this issue will develop further.
