Frontline Situation

According to UATV: The Russia-Ukraine war has now entered its fifth year, with the frontline remaining tense. Russia has suffered substantial losses, estimated at roughly 1.3 million personnel. These staggering figures are causing serious budgetary strain and raising doubts about the Kremlin's ability to carry out effective strategic offensives. General Malomuzh points out that Russia lacks the systemic capacity to conduct such operations.

According to sociological surveys, around 80% of Russians now favor ending the war. This reflects growing public discontent over the conflict's duration and its consequences. In May 2023, the net gain of liberated versus lost territory in Ukraine exceeded 100 square kilometers, indicating active operations by Ukrainian forces.

Russia's Internal Challenges

General Malomuzh highlighted that the Russian authorities have resorted to massive terror tactics, attempting to create what he called 'a kind of Armageddon.'

“That's why there is such massive terror—it's an attempt to create a kind of Armageddon,” General Malomuzh stated.
He noted that the Kremlin had expected Ukraine to surrender and lack the resources to continue fighting: “He thought we would give up, that we would not have resources.”

According to Malomuzh, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be looking for ways out of the current 'dead end.'

“Putin will be looking for ways out of the dead end,” the general emphasized.
This suggests that the situation on the front and inside Russia could shift depending on how events unfold.

Thus, the war in Ukraine remains a critical issue affecting Russia's domestic politics, public opinion, and the Kremlin's strategic plans.

The current situation points to rising tensions within Russia, where public dissatisfaction could influence the Kremlin's political decisions. The loss of resources and human lives is casting doubt on the country's long-term war strategy, potentially leading to a reassessment of military tactics or even an attempt at peace negotiations. At the same time, active operations by Ukrainian forces demonstrate their readiness to continue fighting for territorial integrity, which could shift the regional balance of power.
