The streets of Kyiv have turned into rivers due to melting snow

According to ТСН: Due to the melting of a large amount of snow in Kyiv, some streets have become similar to rivers. Cars have to overcome water obstacles, and pedestrians are also facing difficulties.

Local Telegram channels are publishing videos that demonstrate the flood situation. The most footage has been recorded in the Minsk area, where the roadways are flooded with water. For instance, at the intersection of Polyarna and Simyi Kulzhenkiv streets, cars are literally floating down the road.

A similar picture is observed on Prahiska Street and Stepan Bandera Avenue. Also, on Stetsenka Street, one pedestrian who tried to cross the street found himself almost knee-deep in water.

The Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration reported:

“Brigades of the road maintenance service are on standby at the places of the most severe flooding — pumping out water. We are also monitoring the situation as a whole and responding as needed and as opportunities allow”
. They noted that there is no fixed list of the most flooded areas, and work is being done in operational mode.

In addition, the utilities emphasized that

“It is not entirely correct to call this flooding. Rather, there are places of temporary accumulation of melted water”
.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warned about heavy snowfalls and arctic cold from January 8-11, with forecasts of heavy snowfalls, wet snow, and snowstorms in the western, northern, and central regions, as well as wind gusts up to 18 m/s.

The resultant flooding was caused not only by melting snow but also by the intense precipitation that meteorologists predicted. This situation complicates movement around the city and raises concerns among local residents regarding the work of utility services. Authorities promise to actively respond to the problems and monitor the situation, but it remains unclear when the water obstacles will be completely removed.
