Wetherspoon cancels queues in pubs: how to order drinks now.
Queue cancellation at Wetherspoon pub
According to The Sun: The JD Wetherspoon pub, where visitors previously queued for beer, has cancelled this rule. This step marks a victory for The Sun.
The bar chain had previously asked customers to form a queue for service in one of its establishments.
SunThe introduction of a queuing system was intended to help younger visitors and staff who are not accustomed to traditional bar service.
Now at The Surrey Docks pub in Rotherhithe, southeast London, an announcement has been removed asking regular guests to queue.
This directive, aimed at ensuring 'fair service', has provoked mixed reactions from visitors.
The chain's manager, founder Sir Tim Martin, 70, had previously stated that he was against queues at the bar and that rules may vary in different pubs.
In the end, The Surrey Docks pub staff decided to remove this queue button, which resembled café service.
Despite the policy change, yesterday clients seemed to have already gotten used to the habit of queuing — and continued to do so.
Although The Sun also noted that some visitors, upon returning, went straight to the bar without queuing.
One local resident commented:
“I didn't quite understand it at first, but if they now don't want people to queue, maybe they need to make an announcement to clarify this.”
“If this leads to queues and congestion, it could make the whole situation more confusing.”

Thus, the change in Wetherspoon pub policy reflects an adaptation to new customer expectations. In an environment where visitor habits are changing rapidly, the pub needs to be flexible in its service strategy. Ongoing communication with customers is essential to avoid confusion and ensure an enjoyable experience for all.
