Brighton is home to the world's oldest electric railway: how to ride it.
According to The Sun: Brighton is not only famous for its long pebbled beach, fun arcade, and huge pier, but also for its vintage Volk’s Electric Railway, which is the world's oldest operating electric railway. Running along Brighton Beach, the railway has been in operation since 1883, making it over 140 years old.
With three stations along the line, visitors can hop on at Aquarium Station to explore the railway's history at the visitor's centre, alight at Halfway Centre for various attractions, or reach the end of the line at Black Rock Station near Brighton Marina. Passengers can enjoy views of the seaside during the mile-long journey, with tickets priced at £5.20 for adults for a single journey.
Aside from the railway, Brighton is a popular destination for around 11 million visitors each year, offering a vibrant seaside atmosphere with attractions like The Lanes, Brighton Palace Pier, and beachside bars like OHSO Social and Rockwater. The city's summer vibe has been compared to being abroad, attracting visitors looking for a slice of Ibiza in the UK.
