The Capture of Donbas Will Open the Way to Odesa: Why Ukraine Will Not Concede Territory.
If Russia completely captures Donbas, they will easily be able to continue their advance southward, all the way to Odesa. That is precisely why Ukraine does not plan to give up any part of the Donetsk region after negotiations. This was reported by The Washington Post.
Threat to Odesa
According to American journalists, Ukraine cannot refuse the disputed territory in Donbas, as this is where fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are located, making it difficult for the enemy to advance. And in the event of losing these territories to Russia, the southern part of the country, including the Odesa region, will become vulnerable to future offensives.
“Donbas is a heavily fortified area. There are hills there, while the rest of Ukraine is flat and unfortified, so if Putin captures Donbas, he will have a clear road all the way to Odesa. For 11 years, Russia has been unable to capture this part of Donbas by force,” the journalists of The Washington Post write.
It is worth noting that the situation on the southern front and the consequences of the night shelling of Odesa were recently described.
The publication in The Washington Post emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining control over the Donetsk region to prevent the advance of Russian troops south to Odesa. Ukraine's resistance in Donbas not only complicates any potential offensives but also keeps the southern regions of the country safe.Read also
