Trump on ZNPP: Putin is ready to open the station in collaboration with Ukraine.
According to ТСН: US President Donald Trump stated that during negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky, they discussed the situation around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. He added that Putin is willing to cooperate with Ukraine to open this facility.
Discussion of the situation at ZNPP
Trump made these statements at a briefing after meeting with the Ukrainian leader in Miami. He emphasized that the discussion was about one of the largest nuclear power plants in the world — the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Trump also highlighted that the Russian side 'worked well with Ukraine regarding its opening' and did not strike the facility.
'We spoke with Putin about the Zaporizhzhia NPP. And he is ready to work together with Ukraine, ready to make it open,' Trump added.
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
A temporary ceasefire has been declared at the Zaporizhzhia NPP between Ukraine and Russia to carry out repair work. Before the outbreak of the large-scale war, the plant provided about 20% of Ukraine's electricity and facilitated electricity exports to Europe.
Currently, ZNPP is under Russian control and, according to Ukrainian authorities, is being used as a military base. Russian forces are shelling Nikopol from the territory of the plant.
Peace Plan
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that during negotiations with Donald Trump, they agreed on a peace plan consisting of 20 points.
Thus, the discussion surrounding the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains at the center of international attention. Defining steps in this direction could significantly impact the future development of relations between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the overall security of the region.
