Ukrenergo specialists have successfully restored the operation of the high-voltage line supplying electricity to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. This plant is temporarily under occupation, so the restoration of the line will allow it to receive energy from the controlled territory. After several hours of operation on diesel generators, the ZNPP is once again powered. Representatives of Ukrenergo explained that the work took longer due to safety threats to personnel.
Recall that on July 4, an emergency shutdown occurred due to shelling of the station's power line. The ZNPP had to switch to reserve power from diesel generators, but this is an option that cannot be used indefinitely, as it does not ensure the full functioning of all safety systems. The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, stated that the shutdown of the power plant and the shelling are acts of nuclear terrorism by Russia.
IAEA Emphasizes the Impossibility of Starting Units at ZNPP
According to the terms of the agreements with the occupiers and Rostekhnadzor, the launch of the units at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is currently considered impossible. The conditions of war in the area of the facility hinder the start-up of the units, and this process can only occur after the conflict ends, which threatens nuclear safety. According to IAEA conditions, to fully restore the NPP's operations, water will need to be delivered from the Dnipro River.Ukrainian specialists have restored the power line to the Zaporizhzhia NPP, allowing the plant to receive energy from controlled territory. However, IAEA now emphasizes that due to the war, the launch of the units is currently impossible due to nuclear safety threats. After the emergency shutdown of the power plant due to the shelling of the power line and the restoration of the power line's operation, the ZNPP may continue to receive the necessary power for operation. However, the launch of the units remains impossible at this time and will require additional measures after the conflict concludes.Read also
