Klychko's Deputy Has Changed the Preventive Measure: What Awaits Prokopiv Now.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko's deputy Volodymyr Prokopiv has had his preventive measure changed. He is now required to serve a night house arrest without an electronic bracelet. This news was reported by 'Kyiv24' today, August 12.
Preventive Measure for Prokopiv
The Holosiivskyi District Court decided to change the preventive measure for Prokopiv, replacing it with a house arrest with an electronic bracelet. However, the defendant's sides consider this to be too harsh a punishment, as it prevents him from fulfilling his duties as Klychko's deputy.
As a result, an appeal was filed to change the preventive measure to a night house arrest from 10 PM to 6 AM without an electronic bracelet. The court granted this requirement and made changes to the punishment.
Prokopiv claims that the new decision is a positive signal for the Ukrainian legal system, as it indicates the possibility to defend one's rights and prove one's innocence.
'Is this what I wanted? Of course not. But at least it will allow me to continue my deputy duties,' he emphasized.
What Preceded This
Recall that in early April, Prokopiv was informed of suspicion of aiding tax evasion. He stated that this is part of the political considerations during the election preparations. In the fall of last year, Prokopiv decided to resign following a scandal regarding his property revealed by journalists.
It is worth noting that the news about the change of Prokopiv's preventive measure is just part of his notoriety in recent years related to offenses and scandals. We will keep an eye on the developments in the future.
