The Crisis Inside the 425th Separate Assault Regiment 'Skelya'

According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian lawmaker Fedir Venislavskyi has stated there is no justification for removing Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the 425th Separate Assault Regiment 'Skelya'. This unit is currently under investigation for suspected violations linked to the deaths of new recruits. Ukraine’s military leadership faces scrutiny as these events unfold during a critical phase of the war.

According to available information, at least 26 recruits from the 425th Separate Assault Regiment 'Skelya' died between late 2025 and spring 2026, with these fatalities not connected to combat operations. In response, the battalion commander of 'Skelya' has been suspended from duty, and a pre-trial investigation led by the State Bureau of Investigation is underway.

“As of today, he (Syrskyi) is performing his functions and tasks very effectively in liberating our territory and repelling the enemy. I believe there are absolutely no grounds for dismissing the Commander-in-Chief.” — Fedir Venislavskyi

Venislavskyi also noted that the commander of the 425th Regiment 'Skelya', Yuriy Harkavyi, has been suspended from his duties pending the investigation. He stressed the need for a thorough probe to identify all those involved in potential criminal activity:

  • “Pre-trial investigation bodies must identify all those who committed criminal offenses, as well as those who facilitated them, and make appropriate decisions.”

Outlook and Implications of the Investigation

The situation within the 425th Separate Assault Regiment 'Skelya' remains under close scrutiny, with the investigation still active. At this point, there is no confirmation of any potential resignation by Oleksandr Syrskyi, and his role leading Ukraine’s Armed Forces continues unchanged. The transparency and objectivity of such inquiries are vital for maintaining troop morale, especially during wartime.

The outcome of this investigation could significantly shape future developments within the military and influence trust in the command structure among both soldiers and the public.
