Coalition of Willing Meeting: What Leaders Discussed About Security Guarantees for Ukraine.
According to ТСН: On the evening of December 11, the meeting of the "coalition of willing" concluded via video conference, during which the leaders of the participating countries shared the results of the negotiations on social media.
Importance of Security Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the significance of this security support format for Ukraine both at this moment and in the future.
"We are working to ensure that security guarantees include serious components of European deterrence and are reliable, and it is important that the U.S. is with us and supports. No one is interested in a third invasion of Russia,"
he noted in his Telegram channel. Zelensky added that defense support for Ukraine is particularly important as Russia does not cease its attacks.
"There needs to be more protection of life for diplomacy to work towards a just peace,"
the Ukrainian leader concluded.
Position of Other Leaders
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda noted that guarantees for Ukraine within a potential agreement should not repeat the "Budapest Memorandum."
"First, there should be a ceasefire. Any peace plan must include strong, legally binding security guarantees,"
he wrote on social media. The Lithuanian president also emphasized that any "territorial concessions of Ukraine, its sovereignty, or principles of international law" are unacceptable.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb pointed out that the coalition, comprising 34 countries, continues to support Ukraine at this critical moment of the war.
"We received the latest information on the situation from Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed the next steps towards peace,"
he briefly stated.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof noted that coalition leaders discussed the latest changes in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement, emphasizing the importance of increasing joint support for Ukraine by European partners.
"It is very important for NATO and Europe to be closely involved in the process and to make decisions on issues that concern us — notably on security guarantees, sanctions, and frozen assets,"
he believes. Schoof also expressed confidence that Russia will sooner or later be held accountable for its war crimes in Ukraine.
It is worth noting that a meeting of high-ranking American officials with representatives from Ukraine, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom is planned in Paris. The main topic of discussion will be the peace plan of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The highlighted meeting reaffirms the continued support for Ukraine from the international community in its aspirations to ensure security and peaceful resolution of the conflict. Leaders of the coalition countries continue to actively discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability, emphasizing the importance of legally binding security guarantees and resolving territorial issues.
