New Security Guarantees for Ukraine: Zelenskyy Sets Agenda for Upcoming G7, EU, and NATO Summits.
International Summits to Focus on Ukraine's Security Framework
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has underscored the critical need for security guarantees, which will take center stage at the upcoming G7, European Council, and NATO meetings. In his evening address on June 13, he stressed that these negotiations must deliver tangible results, particularly regarding fresh sanctions against Russia and expanded support for Ukraine. These discussions come as Ukraine continues to face ongoing military aggression, making Western backing a key factor in the conflict's trajectory.
The security guarantee talks are scheduled to occur during the G7 summit in France, as well as at the European Council sessions and a NATO meeting in Ankara. Zelenskyy emphasized that June and July should prove productive not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe. Among the critical support measures being considered are:
- strengthening Ukraine's air defense systems;
- providing long-range strike capabilities for Ukrainian forces.
Diplomatic Push for Peace and Military Updates
In his address, the president also reported successful strikes on targets in temporarily occupied Crimea and within Russian territory. Specifically, he noted that bombardments occurred in the Volgograd and Krasnodar regions. Volodymyr Zelenskyy made clear that
"a complete ceasefire must be the first step toward ending the war" - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
His remarks highlight the dual strategy of military pressure and diplomatic engagement to achieve regional peace and stability.
The European Union, G7, and NATO summits scheduled for June and July are expected to serve as key platforms for addressing these issues and charting the next phase of cooperation with Ukraine. President Zelenskyy also stressed the need for political progress in international coordination, notably through the Drone Deals initiative aimed at boosting military aid to Ukraine.
Discussions on Ukrainian security at these international forums are critically important given the ongoing conflict with Russia. Enhancing military support—including new sanctions and improved air defenses—could significantly affect regional stability. At the same time, Zelenskyy's calls for peace talks and a ceasefire reflect a genuine pursuit of a diplomatic resolution, marking a vital step toward restoring peace in Ukraine and across Europe.
