Ukraine Unveils 'Thousand Springs': Billions in Hryvnia Allocated for Cultural Sector.
Launch of the 'Thousand Springs' Initiative
According to UATV: On June 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the rollout of a new cultural support program called 'Thousand Springs.' This initiative aims to back artists, creative teams, cultural institutions, and individual entrepreneurs. Zelenskyy stated,
“This year, we are launching the first full-scale program to support Ukrainian culture, 'Thousand Springs.' Billions of hryvnia will be guaranteed annually to fund the creation of cultural products.”This marks a significant push to bolster Ukraine’s creative industries amid ongoing challenges.
Program Focus Areas
The 'Thousand Springs' program covers seven key areas:
- films
- TV series
- animation
- music
- performing and visual arts
- social media content
So far, 1,151 applications have been submitted for participation. Zelenskyy also noted that
“projects are coming from all corners of the country, with roughly 17% of them being debut works,”highlighting strong engagement from emerging creators.
The final results of the application review will be announced on June 12. The president emphasized the initiative's importance, stating that 'developing modern Ukrainian culture, supporting our authors and projects, and creating new Ukrainian products are vital components of our strength.' The 'Thousand Springs' program aims to strengthen Ukraine’s cultural foundation and nurture new talent across various art forms.
This launch represents a crucial step forward for Ukraine’s cultural sector, which has suffered from economic and social strains in recent years.
