Three-Way Summit Set for the UAE

According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia will hold talks in the United Arab Emirates on January 23 and 24. This meeting follows an hour-long discussion between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump, which Trump described as a 'very good conversation.'

Key Issues on the Agenda

The upcoming negotiations are expected to focus on Ukraine's security and the nature of U.S. support. Emphasizing the critical role of American involvement, President Zelenskyy stated:

“No security guarantees work without the United States.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

He also remarked that 'Europe enjoys discussing the future but avoids taking action today.'

Also present at the meeting with President Trump were:

  • Steve Witkoff
  • Jared Kushner

These individuals previously represented the U.S. president in talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte highlighted the necessity of supporting Ukraine, asserting that:

“Moscow was and remains the primary adversary not only of Kyiv but of the entire Alliance.” - Mark Rutte

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stressed that 'we must force Russia to end this war,' while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that 'Europe must be capable of defending itself independently.'

The meeting in the UAE is poised to become a significant milestone in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This high-stakes diplomacy occurs as the war enters a critical phase, with international support for Kyiv being a pivotal factor. The three-way talks could prove crucial in shaping strategies for continued U.S. and international backing of Ukraine. A central goal is not only to discuss security concerns but also to find effective paths for de-escalating the conflict with Russia. Given the mounting pressure from Moscow, such cooperation may be decisive for regional stability.
