Zelensky Allowed Foreigners to Serve as Officers in the AFU.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that allows foreigners and stateless persons to serve in military service on officer positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On October 25, the document returned with the signature of the head of state, as indicated by the card of bill №12023 on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The bill "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Concerning the Procedure for Military Service by Contract for Foreigners and Stateless Persons in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard of Ukraine" was adopted by parliament on October 10, 2024.
Before this law was adopted, foreign citizens were allowed to serve in the Ukrainian military only in enlisted and sergeant positions.
According to the explanatory note, the need for changes in the legislation is caused by the complex operational situation on the line of combat contact and the need for a significant increase in the number of combat personnel in the AFU and other military formations.
Recall, earlier, Zelensky ordered the creation of a technological Headquarters and to strengthen work on the liberation of prisoners.
