Ukraine to Establish Domestic Production of Patriot Missiles: Talks Between Zelensky and Fedorov.
Domestic Production of Patriot Missiles in Ukraine: A Strategic Step
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov discussed the possibilities for manufacturing missiles for the Patriot systems in the country. According to media reports, production could commence within weeks. However, despite this promising prospect, there are bottlenecks in missile supply due to an overall shortage. The talks took place against the backdrop of a deteriorating situation in Ukraine – particularly after the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on July 6, 2020.
Fedorov pointed out that Russia has intentionally increased the number of ballistic attacks and is deploying missiles on an unprecedented scale. This development underscores the urgency of strengthening the country's defense capabilities. A standalone production project for Patriot missiles could therefore be a crucial component in effectively countering the growing threat from Russia.
“As leaders, we make decisions – I as President and President Trump – and we have positively resolved this issue.”
Volodymyr Zelensky
The commencement of missile production in Ukraine is seen as a significant step towards improving national security. It could not only enhance military capability but also promote technological independence in the defense sector. However, to successfully implement this, the challenges of sourcing components and resources must be addressed – a critical factor in achieving the set goals.
Need for Action Under Growing Pressure
The discussions between the President and the Defense Minister highlight the seriousness of the current situation and the need to respond swiftly to new threats. Despite optimistic signals, there remains a need for action to address supply issues and ensure adequate defense readiness. The planned domestic production of Patriot missiles is a strategically important initiative – especially in light of the increasing military pressure from Russia.
