Dialogue Between Volodymyr Zelensky and Ursula von der Leyen

According to Novyny.live: On May 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focusing on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and advancing the country’s path toward European Union membership. During the call, Zelensky expressed readiness to open all six negotiation clusters required for EU accession, signaling a major step in the integration process.

Zelensky emphasized that the first cluster, known as Fundamentals, is expected to be launched in June.

“We are fully prepared to open all six negotiation clusters and count on being able to open the first one—Fundamentals—as early as June,” he stated.
He underscored the significance of this milestone for Ukraine’s deeper integration into the EU.

EU Support Package Expected Soon

Beyond accession talks, the Ukrainian leader stressed the urgency of receiving the first tranche from the EU’s support package.

“Europe has the necessary capabilities, and we discussed this, particularly within the framework of our work with the EU on the Drone Deal track,” Zelensky added.
This exchange highlights Ukraine’s determination to strengthen cooperation with the European Union across multiple domains, including defense and political alignment.

The discussion reflects an intensified dialogue between Kyiv and Brussels, crucial for advancing bilateral ties in security and economic spheres. EU membership remains a strategic objective for Ukraine, and opening the negotiation clusters could unlock new avenues for collaboration. Bolstering air defense is also critically important given the ongoing security challenges the country currently faces.
