Merz insists on Zelensky's participation in the Trump-Putin meeting: what will be discussed.
The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is convinced that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky should be involved in the Trump-Putin meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on August 15 in Alaska.
Friedrich Merz stated this in a broadcast on the ARD television channel.
Why Zelensky's participation is important
The head of the German government noted that the involvement of the Ukrainian president is extremely important, as territorial issues may be discussed at the meeting. According to Merz, this cannot happen without the leader of Ukraine.
We hope and operate on the assumption that the Ukrainian government, President Zelensky, will be involved. In any case, we cannot agree that territorial issues between Russia and America are discussed, let alone resolved, through the heads of Europeans and Ukrainians— said Merz.
The German Chancellor hopes that the outcome of the negotiations in Alaska will be a decision to ceasefire against Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that NATO Chief Mark Rutte believes that the Trump-Putin meeting is a test for the dictator of the Russian Federation. The meeting will demonstrate how serious the Russian dictator is.
Meanwhile, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico compared Ukraine to 'grass' suffering during the clashes of 'elephants'. This is how he expressed himself regarding the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin.
Friedrich Merz believes that the participation of Ukraine's president in the Trump-Putin meeting is extremely important, as serious territorial issues may be on the table. He emphasized that Ukraine's participation in these discussions is an integral part of achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the east of the country.
