According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has voiced serious concerns over the potential removal of sanctions on Belarus and the partial lifting of those on Russia, arguing that such moves would weaken international pressure on both nations. He expressed hope that European allies would not roll back the restrictions, warning that doing so could destabilize the region even further.

During a press briefing on March 20, Zelensky emphasized the critical need to maintain the current sanctions regime. He stated:

“This is absolutely a reduction of pressure on Russia and a reduction of pressure on Belarus. We strongly hope that at the very least, our European partners will not lift the sanctions.”

Just a week earlier, on March 13, the United States formally authorized the temporary purchase of Russian oil that had been loaded before March 12. This decision has raised additional alarms in Ukraine. As the president highlighted:

“Weakening sanctions helps Russia in its war effort. Moscow uses those funds to manufacture weapons, including drones, which it actively deploys against Ukraine.”

Current Status of Sanctions

Meanwhile, the European Council has extended its sanctions against Russia for another six months, until September 15, signaling continued resolve to keep up the pressure on the aggressor. The situation remains tense, and Ukraine continues to count on steadfast support from its international partners to safeguard its interests.
