Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the decision to give up nuclear weapons 'illogical' and demands reliable security guarantees.
In an interview with Italian journalist Cecilie Sal, who was released from Iranian captivity, Zelensky noted that Ukraine should not have given up nuclear weapons without reliable guarantees.
'I believe that one should not have acted like this with either Ukraine or Europe, honestly. Because Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons'
Zelensky questions the appropriateness of this step.
The president noted that after giving up nuclear weapons, Ukraine did not receive adequate security guarantees.
'I do not claim that it should have been given up or not, but judging by the fact that we were attacked, it should not have been'
Zelensky emphasized that nuclear weapons should have been exchanged for real security guarantees, which at that time could only be provided by NATO.
'To be honest, even today it is only NATO'
