Zelensky and Trump discussed key phases of negotiations: what was agreed upon.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, shared details about his meeting with the President of the USA, Donald Trump, where key phases of the negotiations were discussed.
In a conversation with journalists, Zelensky noted:
"We spoke today with the President of the United States of America, President Trump. We talked personally about all these steps. I think we will meet when we finalize the documents or get closer to the final draft of the documents."
He also added that three to four rounds of negotiations have already taken place between Ukraine and the USA, some of which occurred during the summit with the participation of both countries' teams without the direct participation of the President of Ukraine.
"We are counting on five documents. Part of them concerns security guarantees that must be coordinated and approved by the US Congress," he emphasized.
The President clarified that this is a mechanism similar to the "fifth article" of NATO, i.e., a mirror format of security commitments.
"Where there are 'fifth amendments' like in NATO, that's the mirrored fifth chapter. And that will be coordinated by Congress. There are agreements about that, and that's very important," said Zelensky.
In Washington, the progress in negotiations regarding Ukraine was also discussed, especially concerning complicated territorial issues. America announced that all elements that, in the US opinion, give Ukraine a sense of security were included in the security block of the agreement.
Moreover, according to American representatives, during the consultations, it was possible to bring the positions between Kyiv and Washington closer regarding the situation around the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, which is under Russian occupation.
Next Steps
It was also announced that the next meeting of the contact group for the defense of Ukraine in the "Ramstein" format is planned for December 16, 2025. The meeting will take place online.
These negotiations between Ukraine and the USA are of great importance for the further development of bilateral relations in the field of security. For their part, the confirmation of plans to provide security guarantees can influence stability in the region. The next steps from both sides remain important for ensuring future agreements.
