Zelenskyy on the Cost of Liberation: Why It's a Matter of Time, Not an Immediate Goal.
The Challenges Facing Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: In a recent interview, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the complex challenges confronting Ukraine, focusing on mobilization, territorial integrity, and international support. He stressed that reclaiming all territories seized by Russia is a formidable task, primarily due to the immense human cost the country would likely incur in the process.
The President's Stance
Zelenskyy firmly rejected any suggestion of withdrawing Ukrainian armed forces from the Donbas region, stating:
“We will do it. That is absolutely clear. It is only a matter of time. To do it today would mean losing a huge number of people.”
He added that for Ukraine, victory means restoring a normal life for its citizens and ending the killing.
The Ukrainian President highlighted the ongoing threat from Russia, noting:
“Putin has already started this. The question is how much territory he will be able to seize.”
Regarding international backing, Zelenskyy reported that the United Kingdom and France have expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with one military brigade each, signaling growing support from Western partners. This military aid is part of a broader effort to help Ukraine defend itself against a larger, more heavily armed adversary.
Zelenskyy also confirmed that Ukraine is considering a transition to a fully professional, contract-based army, which could positively impact mobilization processes. Simultaneously, he emphasized the critical issue of air defense: “How do we make Ukraine stronger in this war? It’s all clear: close the sky.”
The President's interview underscores not only Ukraine's internal challenges but also the vital importance of sustained international support in countering Russian aggression. His statements reflect a determined pursuit of regaining control over occupied territories, coupled with the necessity for military reforms to strengthen national defense. The increasing assistance from Western nations could prove to be a decisive factor in Ukraine's struggle for its independence and territorial integrity.
