Massive Russian Drone Assault Repelled by Ukraine: 198 Out of 216 UAVs Destroyed.
Russia Launches Large-Scale Attack on Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On June 5, Russian forces carried out a massive aerial assault against Ukraine, launching two guided cruise missiles and 216 drones. The operation began on the evening of June 4 and persisted throughout the night. The munitions included two Kh-59/69 guided missiles, with launches originating from the Zaporizhzhia region and multiple locations within Russia. Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 198 of the 216 attack drones, demonstrating a high level of defensive effectiveness.
During the raid, 16 strike drones hit their targets across 13 separate locations. Additionally, debris from downed aerial threats fell in 12 areas. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that Ukrainian forces have developed a specific strategy to counter this new threat from the Kremlin, a critical factor in managing such assaults.
U.S. Talks and Defense Reinforcement
In response to the escalating conflict, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced discussions with the United States regarding licensing for the production of Patriot missile systems. This potential move aims to further strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression.
This attack underscores the rising tensions in the region and the persistent danger posed by Russia, even as Ukraine works to bolster its defensive posture. The integration of Western weapon systems, such as the Patriot, could significantly enhance the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defenses and reduce the risks from future strikes. The negotiations with the U.S. highlight Ukraine’s push for external support to counter aggression and safeguard its territorial integrity.
