Zelenskyy Identifies Territory and Nuclear Plant Control as Core Peace Negotiation Issues.
Ukrainian President's Remarks on Peace Talks
According to TSN.ua: In comments on ongoing peace negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has highlighted two central issues: territorial integrity and control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). These talks involve Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, with the safety of Europe's largest nuclear facility being a critical point of discussion. The plant's location in a frontline region makes its status a matter of urgent international concern.
Andrii Sybiha, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, is also participating in the negotiations. President Zelenskyy emphasized that the discussions fundamentally concern land, stating,
"Essentially, everything revolves around this, even the nuclear power plant—it is also about territory."
The Ukrainian leader stressed the principled importance of the power station, declaring:
"Let's be honest, it's not about money. The nuclear plant is about principles, and it is also about our land."He noted the facility will require years to restore and significant investment due to damage sustained. Moscow's push for discussions on dividing control of the Zaporizhzhia plant has made this a particularly pressing topic within the broader peace dialogue.
Zaporizhzhia Plant's Significance for International Security
The debate over who controls the Zaporizhzhia facility underscores its importance not only for Ukraine but for international security as a whole. The power station, one of the largest in Europe, has become a potential instrument in political negotiations since its seizure.
A successful resolution regarding the ZNPP could represent a major step toward stabilizing the region and reducing tensions between the involved parties.
