Zelenskyy Acknowledges Negotiation Hurdles with Russia but Reaffirms Ukraine's Unwavering Stance.
Zelenskyy and Nausėda Hold Press Conference in Abu Dhabi
According to Novyny.live: During a joint press conference with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on January 25, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that while problematic issues exist in negotiations with Russia, Ukraine's position on its territories remains unchanged. The meeting in Abu Dhabi also saw the presentation of a 20-point peace plan. This diplomatic engagement highlights ongoing international efforts to mediate the conflict.
Zelenskyy noted that
“there were many problematic questions, but they are becoming fewer”(Volodymyr Zelenskyy). This comment suggests gradual, albeit difficult, progress in the talks. The President further emphasized that
“Ukraine's position on territorial integrity remains unchanged”(Volodymyr Zelenskyy), underscoring the nation's resolve in defending its core interests.
Seeking Compromise and International Community Involvement
Zelenskyy also reported that the parties had agreed to communicate in a trilateral format, which could be a first step toward finding a compromise. In this context, Kyrylo Budanov was described as Ukraine's key asset in the UAE negotiations, indicating the crucial role of intelligence and military strategy in these diplomatic efforts. The war, now in its third year, has made any territorial concessions a highly sensitive domestic issue for Ukraine.
This press conference occurred against a backdrop of increasing efforts by the international community to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The participation of Lithuania and the presentation of the detailed peace plan point to a potential intensification of diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement. Continuing the dialogue in a trilateral format is a significant step that may open new avenues for compromise and de-escalation in the region.
