157 Ukrainians Freed in Prisoner Swap and New Aid Announced Following UAE Talks, Says Zelenskyy.
Outcomes of the UAE Negotiations
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has detailed the results of two days of talks in the United Arab Emirates, which yielded a successful prisoner exchange and the announcement of a new energy aid package for Ukraine. The negotiations, which involved meetings between the Ukrainian delegation and representatives from the United States and Russia, indicate ongoing efforts to advance a peace process. These talks in the UAE represent a significant diplomatic channel, separate from direct bilateral contact with Russia.
Zelenskyy highlighted that the prisoner exchange resulted in 157 Ukrainians returning home from Russian captivity.
"The most important thing is that an exchange took place, and 157 of our people have returned home from Russian captivity," the President emphasized. He also expressed Ukraine's readiness for various negotiation formats that could bring a genuine peace closer.
"We are ready for all working formats that can realistically bring peace closer and make it reliable, lasting, and one that deprives Russia of its appetite to continue fighting," Zelenskyy added.
New Energy Assistance Package
Furthermore, during a visit by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, a new $100 million energy assistance package for Ukraine was announced. President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Poland for its support:
"I am grateful to Poland for all its support of Ukraine—our people, our independence. We value this."Zelenskyy stressed that the outcomes of the talks were positive, and he approved new operational plans for the military, underscoring that Ukraine will continue to weaken the enemy. The energy sector remains a critical target in the conflict, making such international support vital for resilience.
In summary, the results of the UAE negotiations point to an intensification of international backing for Ukraine and underscore the importance of prisoner exchanges within the broader humanitarian context. The successful swap not only addresses a humanitarian imperative but also holds strategic value for Ukraine by boosting national morale. Additionally, the new energy aid package from international partners can significantly contribute to the stability of Ukraine's energy sector amid the ongoing war.
