Zelenskyy Open to Re-election, But Only After War's End.
Zelenskyy's Conditional Stance on Future Elections
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with Czech outlet Český rozhlas, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he would consider running for re-election, but only after the war concludes. He emphasized that while he is prepared for elections to be held, this would require concrete security guarantees for the voting process to proceed safely.
Zelenskyy asserted that the decision on elections is a matter for the Ukrainian people, not other nations. He also dismissed rumors that he is attempting to cling to power, labeling such talk as
'inadequate stories.'This statement follows his previous comments in December 2025, where he also expressed readiness for elections, stressing the paramount importance of security.
Funding for Ukrainian Elections
Separately, Oleksandr Korniyenko, head of the 'Servant of the People' party, discussed the costs associated with holding elections in Ukraine, though specific financial details were not provided in this context.
Zelenskyy's remarks underscore the critical link between national security and democratic processes during an ongoing conflict. Holding elections in peacetime would represent a significant step toward restoring Ukraine's full democratic functions. The concurrent discussion of election funding and logistics indicates that the government is actively planning for the future, even amidst the current wartime challenges.
