Ukraine's Territorial Integrity is Non-Negotiable, Says Zelenskyy.
Ukraine's Stance on Territorial Compromises
According to TSN.ua: In an interview with Politico, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he will not seek any compromises that involve ceding territory to Russia. He emphasized that Ukraine has already done much to seek a resolution and firmly rejected the idea of territorial concessions. Zelenskyy underscored the necessity of ending the war, noting he cannot agree to any terms that threaten Ukraine's independence. This position comes as Western allies continue to debate the level and conditions of military support for Kyiv.
Clarifying his stance on 'surrendering' territory, Zelenskyy declared:
'I am the president, and I must defend the Constitution, the independence of my country, and my people.'He stated that Ukraine 'stands where it stands,' and that 'the Russians are not de-occupying the territory they have occupied.' The President also stressed that 'this was the biggest compromise our entire country was ready for and still is.'
Comments from the Presidential Office Leadership
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, also expressed his view on the matter. He noted that the Kremlin aims to seize all of Ukraine, not just specific regions. In his words, territorial concessions would only stimulate further aggression, and 'Russia cannot be trusted.' Zelenskyy emphasized that any pause in hostilities without security guarantees would only allow Moscow to accumulate forces for a renewed assault.
Thus, Ukraine's position remains unchanged: the country is not prepared for compromises that threaten its territorial integrity. President Zelenskyy and his team continue to insist on the necessity of defending Ukraine's independence and sovereignty in the face of Russia's ongoing aggression.
President Zelenskyy's statement underscores Ukraine's resolve in the fight for its territorial integrity and independence. Amid the intensifying conflict with Russia, the stance of Ukrainian leadership could influence the level of international support for Ukraine and the future course of any negotiation process. The refusal of territorial concessions serves as a critical signal to Ukraine's partners about the need for more decisive actions to ensure security in the region.
