Meeting of the President of Ukraine on emergency circumstances in the energy sector
According to UATV: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting regarding emergency circumstances in the energy sector of Ukraine on January 14. The main focus of the meeting was on the situation in Kyiv, where shelling by Russian troops and worsening weather conditions have caused serious problems in the energy infrastructure.
As a result of the meeting, a decision was made to create a headquarters to coordinate the situation in Kyiv, aimed at providing support to the population in emergency conditions. Volodymyr Zelensky announced the introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector. The First Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy of Ukraine were appointed as heads of the operations aimed at supporting people during this difficult time.
Activation of cooperation and measures for stabilization
During the meeting, the activation of work with international partners to obtain necessary equipment to restore energy stability was also discussed. Zelensky announced deregulation of the processes for connecting backup energy equipment, which is expected to ease resource acquisition during the crisis.
“A state of emergency will be introduced in Ukraine's energy sector,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The president also instructed the government to prepare a review of curfew rules to ensure order in cities affected by shelling.
The shelling that led to the declaration of a state of emergency affected not only Kyiv but also:
- Dnipropetrovsk region
- Zhytomyr region
- Zaporizhzhia region
- Kharkiv region
- Kherson region
- Chernihiv region
These measures are aimed at reducing the negative consequences for the population and the energy system of the country in emergency circumstances.
The introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine's energy sector underscores the seriousness of the current challenges facing the country, particularly in the context of war and adverse weather conditions. The establishment of a headquarters for coordinating actions locally and the activation of cooperation with international partners can significantly impact the responsiveness to emerging problems. This indicates the government's readiness to take urgent measures to protect the population and stabilize the energy infrastructure during the crisis.
