Zelensky and Modi discussed ways to achieve peace: first comments from the leaders of Ukraine and India.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi held a historic meeting in Kyiv on August 23, 2024, on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day. The main topic of the talks was the issue of peace and ending the war in Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of India's participation in the Peace Summit and expressed hope for the country's accession to a joint communiqué. Modi, for his part, confirmed India's readiness to make an active contribution to achieving peace in Ukraine.
"The only way to solve problems is through dialogue and diplomacy. Without losing a minute, we must move in this direction," said the Indian Prime Minister.
During the meeting, agreements on cooperation between Ukraine and India in the medical, agricultural, humanitarian, and cultural fields were agreed upon. A joint statement on building a strategic partnership, trade, and military-technical cooperation was also prepared.
Modi emphasized that India supports respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also reminded of his previous statements to President Putin regarding the unacceptability of war as a means to resolve conflicts.
The leaders of the two countries paid tribute to the memory of children who died as a result of Russian aggression by visiting the multimedia martyrology "Children" in Kyiv. According to Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 570 Ukrainian children have died, although this figure is not final due to the lack of complete information from occupied territories.
