Zelensky in Kyodo News: on the real losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia's invitation to the World Summit, and whether there is an alternative to NATO.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refuted information about 80,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers published in the American press. According to the president, the actual number of losses is significantly lower, although it is difficult to determine the exact number of casualties in temporarily occupied territories.
'I want to say that it is much less. However, we need to be absolutely honest: we really do not know how many Ukrainians have died in temporarily occupied territories,' the president noted.
Zelensky also pointed out that the ratio of losses between the Ukrainian and Russian armies is 1 to 8. He condemned the shamelessness of Russia regarding human casualties.
'Eight dead Russians for one dead Ukrainian. They do not pity people,' he emphasized.
The president rejected the possibility of new formats for security guarantees for Ukraine, such as the Budapest Memorandum or the Minsk Agreements. He reminded that the Budapest Memorandum, which was signed by countries such as America, Britain, France, and Russia, did not work.
'Theoretically, there may be different formats, but in practice - let's look at our Budapest Memorandum. It was a strong document, with countries like America, Britain, France, and Russia. But it did not work,' Zelensky explained.
Regarding the Second Peace Summit, the president reported that Ukraine has prepared a detailed document after holding nine conferences with the participation of dozens of countries. He stated that Russia was invited to the summit, but reminded countries that Russia can do everything to disrupt the peace process.
'As all leaders wanted - at the second summit, Russia should be there, we will invite them. But I want to remind countries that still doubted to be at the first summit without Russia - you will see, Russia will do everything to first cancel the formula, then hold the summit, and then cancel its ability to attend the second summit. It is not interested in ending the war,' Zelensky emphasized.
