Zelensky Urges EU to Set Ukraine Membership Timeline, Citing Lost Time Due to €90 Billion Blockage.
Appeal to the European Union
According to Novyny.live: Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the European Union to establish a clear timeline for Ukraine’s accession. He stressed that the blockage of a €90 billion loan has resulted in a critical loss of time needed to prepare the country for winter. The president emphasized that Ukraine must begin winter preparations now, given the difficult circumstances on the ground.
On March 31, Zelensky met with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas to discuss Ukraine’s European integration path. During the meeting, he pointed out that Russia is fully aware of how crucial this European course is for Ukraine and is doing everything in its power to obstruct progress.
'Russia understands this—sometimes even better than some in Europe. That is precisely why Moscow is doing everything to stop Ukraine’s movement toward the European Union.' – Volodymyr Zelensky
The president further noted that the credit freeze is being driven by a single individual in Europe who is opposing the interests of the entire continent in order to appease Moscow.
'This (the loan blockage) is happening because one person in Europe has stood against all of Europe, simply to satisfy Moscow.' – Volodymyr Zelensky
These remarks highlight the urgent need for EU support amid Ukraine’s ongoing military and economic challenges. Calls for a defined accession timeline could serve as a key catalyst for advancing European integration and unlocking vital financial aid. At the same time, Zelensky’s statements underscore the obstacles Ukraine faces in defending European values while under constant Russian pressure.
