Zelenskyy's Appeal to European Leaders

According to UATV: In a statement on January 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Europe to implement concrete measures to increase pressure on Russia. He specifically urged action against Russia's 'shadow fleet' of oil tankers and the supply of components for drones and missiles. Zelenskyy stressed the critical need to stop tankers carrying Russian oil from continuing to operate in European waters.

The President pointed out that despite European efforts, significant problems persist. He cited a recent example where France detained a tanker with Russian oil, only to release it later.

"If a tanker carrying Russian oil is stopped, it should not subsequently be released," the President stated.

The Critical Need to Control Supply Chains

Furthermore, Zelenskyy highlighted the urgent necessity of controlling the supply of components for Russian drones and missiles, which are used to attack Ukraine.

"For instance, components. We have spoken about the components for Russian missiles and drones, which they later use to kill us," he emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for the support Europe has provided Ukraine, specifically mentioning the allocation of 50 billion euros, which he said 'helped us a great deal'. However, he stressed this was only a 'small step' in countering Russian aggression and called for a strengthened coalition and unified action against threats emanating from Russia. This appeal comes as Ukraine continues to defend itself against a full-scale invasion, now approaching its third year.

The Ukrainian President's statement underscores the persistent challenges Europe faces in the context of the war. It demonstrates the need for more decisive measures to combat Russian aggression, particularly in controlling supply chains that sustain military operations. While European support is vital, it requires further strengthening and coordination to effectively counter the threats in the region.
