What’s Happening in Crimea

According to UATV: Conditions in Crimea are deteriorating as the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue striking military infrastructure, leading to fuel shortages and a breakdown in logistics. According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, the disruption of supply routes has been underway for some time. Gas stations across Crimea are currently out of gasoline, severely hampering the ability to meet military needs.

The peninsula is gradually losing its function as a military hub, with naval logistics being the first to be dismantled. This development underscores the importance of the land corridor, which served as the primary supply route into Crimea. Pletenchuk emphasized that

“naval logistics were the first to be taken out”
, delivering a significant blow to Russian forces stationed in the region.

Military Threats and Supply Challenges

The ferry ‘Slavyanin,’ which could carry up to 52 rail tank cars, has also become inoperable as the situation worsens. Russian command now views the possibility of a Ukrainian naval amphibious landing on Crimea’s western coast as a credible threat.

“Without crossing this obstacle and without guaranteed logistics, it is physically impossible to advance in this direction,”
Pletenchuk stated.

Amid these developments, Ukrainian forces are persistently targeting military infrastructure in Crimea, intensifying the crisis for Russian troops in the area. Pletenchuk noted that

  • Iskander missiles
  • Zircon missiles
  • aircraft and helicopters
are being launched from Crimea into Ukraine, highlighting the strategic importance of controlling this region.

Under constant pressure from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian troops in Crimea face severe difficulties in sustaining their operations. The loss of access to key supply routes and resources, including fuel, could significantly undermine their ability to continue military activities in the area. How events unfold in Crimea may not only shape the course of the conflict but also influence the broader security and military stability of the region.
