Freed Ukrainian Prisoners of War to Receive 100,000 Hryvnias: Full List of Payments and Benefits.
Rights of Released Ukrainian Defenders
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian servicemen released from captivity are entitled to financial compensation, social benefits, rehabilitation services, and job protection. Under new regulations, former prisoners of war can claim a one-time payment of 100,000 hryvnias. To access this benefit, they must provide official documentation confirming their period of detention.
Additionally, released soldiers will receive an annual cash allowance for each year spent in captivity. This measure aims to provide crucial financial relief to those who endured harsh conditions as prisoners. They are also granted an extended leave of 90 calendar days to recover from their ordeal.
Social Benefits and Medical Assistance
Former prisoners of war qualify for free medical care, psychological support, and rehabilitation programs. This underscores the government's commitment to addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by returnees.
Importantly, their employment positions are guaranteed for the entire duration of captivity and for six months following release. This safeguard facilitates a smoother transition back to civilian life and career continuity. During captivity and for half a year after returning, defenders are also exempt from paying fines and other financial penalties, offering significant additional support.
To apply for payments, former servicemen must submit a request along with the following documents:
- A passport or other valid identification document;
- Tax identification number (RNOCPP);
- Official proof of captivity;
- A bank statement with account details for fund transfer.
This information was reported by the NV news agency, citing an interview with Nataliia Shmarko, a lawyer and head of the prisoners of war and missing persons unit at the NGO 'Legal Hundred'.
These new provisions highlight the state's obligation to its military personnel who have endured severe captivity conditions. The financial payouts and social benefits are designed not only to improve the material well-being of released soldiers but also to support their psychological rehabilitation. Guaranteeing job retention and medical care are essential elements in helping defenders reintegrate into peaceful life, which can significantly impact their social standing within society.
