7th Air Assault Corps Units Embrace New Technologies

According to TSN.ua: Major Viktor Kondun has detailed how units of the 7th Air Assault Corps (AAC) are adapting to new battlefield technologies, developing an R&D center, and confronting the challenges Ukrainian defense forces face on the Pokrovsk front. This front is a critical and active sector of the conflict where the Corps, comprised of seven units, is currently engaged in combat operations.

The primary goal of the new R&D center is to enhance technological capabilities and foster innovation, focusing on developing new military tech solutions. Major Kondun emphasized that the aim is not to create a classic R&D center where specialists solely design or develop solutions from scratch. Instead, the Corps' brigades are actively manufacturing or upgrading their own equipment, a crucial step for increasing combat effectiveness and achieving a degree of self-reliance.

Challenges Facing Ukrainian Defense Forces

Ukrainian forces are also working on solutions to counter fiber-optic guided drones, as the adversary actively develops unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and navigation systems. In 2022, Russian troops employed motorcycles for assaults, introducing new complexities to the battlefield. Within Ukraine, several manufacturers are producing electronic warfare (EW) solutions, and the 7th Corps already has combat-tested EW applications deployed against UAVs.

"Every day, something new appears on the battlefield," noted Major Kondun.

This comment underscores the dynamic nature of the conflict and the constant need to adapt to evolving conditions. His stated top priority is to 'replace the front line of people with technology,' a key factor for improving the safety and operational efficiency of Ukrainian military units.

The main development directions for the R&D center include:

  • Enhancing new solutions for FPV drone interceptors;
  • Developing new radio-electronic complexes;
  • Improving bomber drones.

All these efforts contribute to strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities in the face of modern warfare challenges.

The advancement of technology and innovation in the military sphere is critically important for Ukraine, given the constant shifts on the battlefield and threats from the adversary. Adapting units to new conditions and actively implementing indigenous technological solutions not only boosts combat effectiveness but also fortifies the country's overall defense posture. This reflects Ukraine's drive to integrate modern technology into its military doctrine, a vital aspect of its response to current wartime pressures.
