The plans for the expansion of the Bakerloo Line include the addition of the Lewisham station. Although this station has been mentioned in films in the past, it has never actually existed. Now this could become a reality thanks to the expansion plans in the London area. Since 2014, the question of expanding the Bakerloo Line has been considered, but a lack of government funding has hindered its implementation. However, newly submitted projects provide a chance for expansion, as well as the creation of new stations in South London. The stations Burgess Park and Old Kent Road will be developed, along with the addition of New Cross Gate and Lewisham, where there is currently no subway. According to Time Out, with the extension of the line to Lewisham, there could be 27 journeys per hour, which would mean a trip every two minutes. The project is costly, but discussions with the Mayor of London regarding funding are ongoing. The project includes extending the line from Elephant and Castle to Lewisham and building a new ticket hall at Elephant and Castle station. The route will run from Elephant and Castle along Old Kent Road, further to New Cross Gate. If the plans are approved, TfL predicts that work could begin in 2030 and be completed by 2040. This would mean the construction of a subway station in Lewisham. Laquo; The Baker Street and Waterloo line was built in 1906 but quickly received a new name – the Bakerloo line, thanks to a journalist. Since then, it has undergone several extensions, including to Elephant and Castle, Queen's Park, and Watford Junction. Today, the line is often associated with the retro 1972 trains with brown and grey interiors. If the extension is built, it could connect Lewisham to central London in 15 minutes.
