According to TSN.ua: Scientists are exploring the use of a nuclear detonation to deflect a potentially hazardous asteroid. Recent experiments by physicists from the University of Oxford and the Outer Solar System Company startup have yielded a surprising result: asteroids may actually become stronger when subjected to a powerful impact, which could reduce the risk of creating dangerous fragments. This research is part of ongoing global efforts to develop viable planetary defense strategies against near-Earth objects.

As part of the study, experts analyzed the iron meteorite Campo del Cielo, subjecting it to intense radiation using the Super Proton Synchrotron particle accelerator at CERN. Initially, the meteorite material softened, but subsequently became significantly harder. These findings suggest that a nuclear explosion might not only divert a collision but could also positively alter the asteroid's structural integrity.
