Lawyer Reveals Fake Medical Reports Used to Draft People Without Part of Their Skull.
Drafting Individuals with Severe Health Conditions
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine has seen disturbing cases of military conscription involving people with serious medical disabilities, raising public alarm. Attorney Oleh Mytsyk has exposed a pattern of fraudulent assessments by the Military Medical Commission (MMC) that enable these situations. According to him, one documented case involved a person missing 14 cm² of skull bone who was still called up for service.
'There was a case where they drafted a man missing 14 cm² of his skull. It took us a year to get him discharged. Or a clearly diagnosed schizophrenic... There are far too many such cases.' Oleh Mytsyk
This issue highlights serious flaws in how the MMC operates, as it is supposed to provide an objective evaluation of recruits' health. To improve service conditions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, authorities plan to raise the minimum military salary to 40,000 hryvnias by 2027. Yet the problem of conscripting people with major medical conditions remains unresolved and demands urgent action.
Ethical and Legal Dimensions of Mobilization
The controversy has sparked concern not only among human rights advocates but also across broader society, as it challenges the ethical and legal foundations of the draft system. It is critical that relevant authorities take steps to reform the MMC's procedures to prevent such cases going forward.
- Raising military pay could be an important step toward improving service conditions.
- However, it does not address the need for proper medical screening of conscripts.
