Popular in winter, mulled wine can not only warm you up in cold weather but also support the heart.
Moreover, this hot drink has the ability to lower cholesterol levels in the blood, but under certain conditions, writes TSN.ua.
British dietitian Tyler Woodard claims that the key is to know what to add to mulled wine and how to prepare it properly. Then the drink can lower blood cholesterol by 12%.
The fact is that polyphenols and resveratrol, which are abundant in red wine, counteract the toxins that are involved in clot formation. According to the dietitian, heated red wine helps reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases.
When preparing mulled wine, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and ground hot red pepper are added. And the greatest anti-cholesterol effect in mulled wine is provided by cinnamon. It can reduce inflammation and swelling on its own. And combined with other spices, honey, oranges, and lemons, it also improves well-being and health.
However, it should be remembered that mulled wine is alcohol, which contains many natural sugars. Therefore, in case of excessive consumption, blood sugar levels can spike significantly. Blood pressure can also rise, so for mulled wine to be beneficial, you need to limit yourself to a few glasses.
