Ukrainian Woman in Germany Received a Fine of 1300 Euros: What Else Foreigners Pay For.
According to ТСН: A Ukrainian woman living in Germany shared her experience of receiving fines due to ignorance of local laws and regulations. She noted that before traveling or moving to another country, it is important to familiarize oneself with local laws and customs to avoid problems.
Fines and Their Reasons
Polina moved to Germany in March 2022. She recalled that one of the first fines was for illegally downloading movies and games from the internet — the fine amounted to 1300 euros.
In her post, the Ukrainian also talked about fines for violating electric scooter rules. It turned out that riding them on bike paths is prohibited, and the fine can reach 1500 euros, but thanks to a lawyer, she managed to reduce this amount to 250 euros.
Unforeseen Situations
Another incident occurred during a cycling trip: the blogger's husband accidentally bumped into an elderly German man who fell and broke his nose. The Ukrainian expected a significant fine, but it was only 35 euros.
Moreover, due to the absence of a rear light on the bicycle, the couple received a fine of 25 euros, even though the lights were stolen the same day.
“To avoid getting fined, if you live in Germany, you need to stay home and not go out. Because leading an active life here is expensive,” the blogger concluded.
It is also worth noting that earlier the Ukrainian shared her impressions of Albania, calling it the cheapest and most beautiful country in Europe with prices “like in Ukraine.”
This case serves as a clear example of how important it is to be informed about local laws, especially when it comes to traveling or moving to other countries. Polina urged others to abide by the rules to avoid unpleasant situations and financial costs. Situations with fines can arise not only due to violations but also because of circumstances that are hard to predict, so attentiveness and awareness are key.
