The USA establishes control in Venezuela: will Ukraine receive Russian weapons from Maduro?.
According to ТСН: As a result of the US military operation in Venezuela and the arrest of President Maduro, the country has found itself in a state of political uncertainty. Although it is still too early to say that the Americans fully control Caracas, significant changes are taking place in the leadership and state institutions.
Situation Analysis
In an interview on '24 Channel', executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation Dmytro Zmaylo noted that it is currently important to observe how the US plans to ensure control over Venezuela, as there is a risk of mass protests.
Zmaylo also emphasized that Ukraine could receive military equipment that Russia had previously supplied to Venezuela. This includes Su-30 fighter jets, upgraded S-300 air defense systems, Buk missile systems, and S-125, which could be useful for the Ukrainian military.
'If the Americans manage to secure their position in Venezuela, it can be hoped that certain types of weapons will reach Ukraine,' the expert noted.
He added that Ukrainian diplomats would already be working on this, although the US has not yet established full control over the country.
Historical Perspective
Zmaylo reminded that since 1991, Ukraine has effectively been under Russian influence, citing examples from the 1990s, as well as the periods of 2004–2008, 2014, and early 2022 when international decisions limited Ukraine's defense capabilities.
According to him, the actions of the US in Venezuela can be seen as an attempt to implement what the Kremlin had previously tried to do regarding Ukraine, but the Russians failed.
The American raid in Caracas showed that Venezuela has become a cold shower for the 'multipolar world' of the Kremlin. Analysts note that Russia has once again proven to be an unreliable ally at a critical moment. Similar situations have already occurred in Nagorno-Karabakh, Syria, and Iran, where Russia has effectively been unable or unwilling to intervene. At the same time, the overthrow of Nicolás Maduro's regime by US forces could mark the beginning of a global redistribution of spheres of influence.
This situation in Venezuela could have far-reaching consequences for international politics, as it strengthens the position of the US, which, in turn, is trying to restore its influence in the region. Observers believe that further actions by America could change the balance of power not only in Latin America but also in the global context.
