In October 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posthumously awarded him the title of Hero of Ukraine. His death occurred during a period of heightened national tension following Russia's full-scale invasion.
Political Career and Activities

His political career began in 1990 when he was elected as a deputy to the Lviv Regional Council. In 1991, he became a co-founder of the Social-National Party of Ukraine. He was elected as a national deputy from the 'Our Ukraine – People's Self-Defense' bloc in 2007. Parubiy's murder was shocking news for many Ukrainians. On September 1, 2025, law enforcement detained a suspect in the killing, identified as a 52-year-old resident of Lviv. Andriy Parubiy is buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv, where his memory will be honored in perpetuity.
The assassination of Andriy Parubiy reflects the complex and dangerous situation in Ukraine, where political figures and activists face significant threats.
His contribution to the struggle for independence and the country's development left a profound mark on history, and the posthumous recognition of his merits demonstrates the great esteem and respect for his work. The arrest of a suspect may be a crucial step in the investigation and pursuit of justice, yet for society, this remains a severe blow that raises urgent questions about security and stability in the nation.
