According to Novyny.live: On January 23, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, announced the signing of a grant agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) worth approximately 4 billion yen. This funding is designated for humanitarian demining operations and the provision of medical assistance within Ukraine. This substantial aid package arrives as Ukraine continues to face immense challenges in clearing its territory of explosive hazards and treating war-related injuries.

Key Areas for the Grant Funding

The grant will primarily finance humanitarian demining, a critical need given that landmines and explosive remnants are responsible for roughly 65% of all injuries in Ukraine. The agreement represents a vital step toward ensuring the safety and health of civilians impacted by the ongoing conflict.

Ihor Klymenko expressed gratitude to Japan for its trust and partnership, emphasizing the significance of this assistance for Ukraine.

This Japanese initiative follows other recent international support pledges, including Norway's announcement of an $8.3 billion energy aid package. Furthermore, Romania and Croatia have joined the PURL initiative and declared their first contributions.
