A unique spear of a prince found in Poland: what the lake concealed.
According to ТСН: Archaeologists discovered four spearheads at the bottom of Lake Lednica in Poland. One of the findings impresses with its decoration, indicating that it may have belonged to a prince or nobleman.
"It is covered with gold, silver, bronze, and other metals, and its surface is intricately adorned with spiral and triskelion motifs (intertwining geometric patterns)," said the statement from the research group.
According to the archaeologists' conclusions, "the spear may have served as a symbol of power, a distinction of a noble warrior, or a ritual item." Scientists believe that it was not intended for combat.
Uniqueness of the discovery
The smallest of the discovered spearheads remained attached to a handle made of ash.
"This is a rare case, as only two spears from Lake Lednica have such well-preserved handles," noted Andrzej Pidyn, a professor of archaeology at Nicolaus Copernicus University and director of the Center for Underwater Archaeology at the university.
He also added that "the weapon's tip was adorned with a ring made of deer horn, making it a unique artifact."
Additionally, archaeologists recently discovered an intact sword dating back 2,500 years in a warrior's tomb. These findings testify to the rich cultural heritage of this region and its historical significance. Ongoing research may draw attention to the preservation of Poland's archaeological heritage and contribute to further discoveries in this field.
