Civilians Targeted in Kherson Drone Attacks
According to UATV: On July 18, 2023, Russian forces launched drone attacks against civilians in Kherson, leaving at least 18 people injured and three dead. The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office has opened a pre-trial investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war. These incidents highlight the ongoing danger faced by ordinary residents in a region already scarred by conflict.
Details of the Attacks
At 08:35, a Russian drone struck a passenger car in Kherson's Korabelny district. Five people were wounded in this attack, including a 14-year-old teenager. The other victims were men aged 45 and 48, and women aged 37 and 52. All suffered traumatic brain injuries, concussions, and shrapnel wounds.
Earlier that same day, at 07:20, a Russian drone hit the village of Komyshany, injuring a 43-year-old man. These events were part of a broader wave of shelling that began on July 17, when three people died and 18 others were wounded across the Kherson region.
Authorities in the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office are conducting a pre-trial investigation under Article 438, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, aiming to determine the circumstances of these attacks and bring those responsible to justice.
These attacks underscore the persistent violence in the region, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of military operations. Strikes on non-combatants represent a grave breach of international humanitarian law, drawing concern from the global community. The investigation could prove crucial in delivering justice for victims and their families, as well as identifying and punishing the perpetrators of these crimes.
